POLICE AND FIREFIGHTERS LAUNCH UNIFIED TV CAMPAIGN IN SUPPORT OF JERRY BROWN

New TV spots to highlight Brown’s commitment to public safety

(SACRAMENTO) – A new committee representing roughly 100,000 front line firefighters and law enforcement officers is launching a new TV campaign in support of Jerry Brown.

The group – 100,000 Frontline Firefighters and Law Enforcement for Jerry Brown – was established last month in support of Brown’s campaign. Their first round of television spots begins airing Tuesday, October 12, 2010.

“As a governor, a mayor and attorney general, Jerry Brown has stood up in support of public safety for close to four decades,” said Ron Cottingham, president of the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC). “Jerry has the record, the experience and the know-how to protect our state and its citizens.”

“Firefighters and police officers have made public service their life’s work,” said Lou Paulson, president of California Professional Firefighters. “For them, Brown’s four decades of support are a stark contrast with his opponent, who for 28 years couldn’t even be bothered to vote.”

The new spots feature active front line public safety personnel, speaking to the issues that make a difference in their lives. “Firefighter Emily” features Emily Lo, a Davis fire captain with 20 years in the fire service. “Police Angie” features Officer Angela Bennett, who works for the Chula Vista Police Department. Angie has been a police officer for eight-and-a-half years.

100,000 Frontline Firefighters and Law Enforcement for Jerry Brown is funded by California Professional Firefighters and Peace Officers Research Association of California. The new organization will be targeting specific regions of the state with its new advertising. So far, the two organizations have committed more than $500,000 to a substantial initial buy in the Central Valley.
