This is a
summary of the annual report for the Insurance and Benefits Trust of
PORAC E.I.N. 68-6068469 Plan No. 501 for the year ended
December 31, 2005. The annual report has
been filed with the Internal Revenue Service, Employee Benefits Security
Administration, and U.S. Department of Labor as required under the
Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA).
The
plan has contracts with Standard Insurance Company to provide certain
Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, Temporary Disability Benefits
incurred under the terms of the plan. The total premiums paid for the
plan year ended December 31, 2005 was $2,183,458.
Because
they are so called “experience-rated” contracts, the premium costs are
affected by, among other things, the number and size of claims. Of the
total insurance premiums paid for the plan year ended December 31, 2005,
the premiums paid under such “experience-rated” contracts were
$2,035,889 and the total of all benefit claims paid under these
experience-rated contracts during the plan year was $1,792,775.
The net assets
of the Trust at the end of the year totaled $10,017,079 compared to
$11,495,915 at the beginning of the year. The value of plan assets,
after subtracting liabilities of the plan, was $4,533,917 as of December
31, 2005, compared to $6,814,818 as of January 1, 2005. During the plan
year, the plan experienced a decrease in its net assets of
($2,280,901). This decrease includes unrealized appreciation or
depreciation in the value of plan assets; that is, the difference
between the value of the plan’s assets at the end of the year and the
value of the assets at the beginning of the year, or the cost of assets
acquired during the year. During the plan year, the plan had total
income of $5,446,711 including participant contributions of $3,110,147,
realized gains of $1,274,117 from the sale of assets, earnings (loss)
from investments of (817,995) and other income of $1,880,442.
Plan expenses
were $6,593,427. These expenses included, $4,460,321 for Long-term
disability benefits paid, $372,533 or Premiums paid for Long-term
Disability Insurance, $193,886 for Premiums paid for Accidental Death,
Group Life Insurance & AD&D, Administrative expenses of $373,642 for
Myers-Stevens, $219,727 for Standard Insurance Company, $90,693 for
PORAC expenses, $400,625 for Miscellaneous Administrative expenses and
$482,000 for Death benefits paid.
