We understand one important reality of business, in that from time-to-time a insurance company can introduce new products as a defense reaction to competition. The PORAC sponsorship of insurance plans, comes from an ongoing analysis of plans and companies with leadership position within the insurance community.

In 1978 when PORAC began sponsoring the Cancer Expense Insurance plan underwritten by AFLAC, few people knew who or what cancer coverage was, let alone who AFLAC was, except the policyholders, who in those days were receiving about 1 million dollars a week in claims benefits (today AFLAC pays, on average, over 1.6 million dollars in claims daily to their claimants).

Consider These Facts . . .

According to the American Cancer Society's, Cancer Facts & Figures, 1995

  • Current trends indicate approximately 1,252,000 new cancer cases will be diagnosed.

  • About one in every three Americans (about85 million) now living will eventually have cancer.

  • 100,000 more lives could be saved each year with early detection and treatment.

  • The overall costs for cancer were estimated to be $104 Billion; $35 billion was for medical expenses, but nearly twice this amount, $69 billion, was for indirect costs.

DIRECT COSTS

Medical Expense: Usually, the major portion of cancer medical expense is paid by the health insurance offered by your employer or your individual health plan. As health insurance costs increase, co-payments and deductibles often rise as well.

INDIRECT COSTS

Loss Of Earning Power: Earning power can be lost for both husband and wife, if the healthy one is forced to leave work to care for the one who is ill.

Out-Of-Pocket Expenses: These expenses include medical bills not covered by insurance; normal household expenses (rent, food, utilities, car payments, etc.); and the often overlooked indirect non-medical expenses brought on by serious illness such as travel, food, extra household help, special equipment and child care.

The Solution

Cancer Expense Protection - Even if you have excellent health insurance, it probably will not cover 100% of the medical costs of cancer, and most health coverage's, including ours, do not pay specifically for non-medical expenses. However, our plans are supplemental and pay regardless of any other insurance you may have. The benefits are paid directly to you, unless assigned, so you can use them where you need them most.
