PORAC Prudent Buyer Plan

Since 1986, the PORAC Prudent Buyer Plan has been providing *eligible PORAC members with a PPO Health Plan that is consistently one of the highest rated programs under CalPERS for overall member satisfaction. PORAC originally chose to provide the Members with a PPO Plan versus an HMO Plan because our Members require and deserve high-quality, immediate medical care that is rich in preventive benefits.

The PORAC Blue Cross PPO Plan allows you:

  • Freedom to choose any licensed health care provider your condition warrants.

  • To chose a physician from the 40,000 participating physicians in the Blue Cross Physician Network.

  • High quality and comprehensive coverage.

PORAC continues to praise the PPO Philosophy because we realize that HMO’s typically delay referrals to, and for, specialists, diagnostic testing, and aggressive medical treatment. These delay tactics have resulted in life threatening situations that could have been avoided and are completely unnecessary. The old adage "you get what you pay for" really applies when factoring the costs of medical care.

Benefits

Although our health plan is a PPO, we are still able to offer the following benefits with very little costs to the Member.

The PORAC Health Plan is a 90/10 plan; Blue Cross pays 90% of the health care costs and the member pays 10%. PORAC’s Plan has rich benefits in the Maternity and Family Planning areas as well as the Mental Disorders and Substance Abuse areas.
