COLTON POLICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION

PRESS RELEASE Friday March 4, 2011

CITY LEADERS WORK WITH POLICE UNION TO HELP OFFICERS FIND JOBS

On March 3 2011 the City of Colton council and staff issued layoff notices to 8 of Colton's finest police officers, the 9th officer had resigned prior to notices being sent out after receiving a job with a neighboring city.  This was due to the city's fiscal problems and the issues it faces with the loss of the city's utility users tax in June of 2011.

The Colton Police Officers Association would like to thank all the Colton City Council and Colton City Manager Rod Foster for being compassionate and working with our membership by allowing the 8 members of our family to still be employed for the next two months.  We hope this new dialogue continues with our City leaders so that we can work together to help the city of Colton advance through these hard times.

The CPOA is desperately working hard during this time to work with other law enforcement agencies and associations to find work for our 8 officers, as hiring for peace officers require extensive background checks which can take several months.  The CPOA is proud to share some of the best trained officers with other communities throughout the state and they will be a loss to our Colton police family.

CPOA would also like to thank our Colton citizens, labor organizations and allied associations that helped us during this difficult time.    Citizens of Colton can be assured that they will still receive the highest level of service we can provide.

CPOA will also continue to work with our community by doing "Coffee with the CPOA" and contributions to youth based organizations in our city.  For more information on CPOA current activities and community outreach or check us out at : www.coltonpoa.org
