This is a busy week in
Sacramento -- Legislators return to the Capitol
today from their month – long summer recess. It
is now day 33 of the fiscal year and a budget
has yet to pass.
On this edition of PORAC
TV, we update you on several important pieces of
legislation PORAC is working on. This week,
PORAC has several bills up in the Appropriations
Committee, which is the fiscal committee in the
Legislature. Due to the fiscal crisis, no
legislation is getting through that has any cost
associated with it, no matter the subject or
benefit to California. Check out this new PORAC
TV to learn more.
We look forward to these
periodic updates and we hope that they prove to
be informative to our members, as well as
members of the Legislature and their staff.
This is our effort to work in a coordinated
manner to communicate the concerns of the public
safety community to those who can affect
positive change.

Ron Cottingham had the opportunity to sit down
with Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher, the author
of "Chelsea's Law," to discuss what this law
encompasses and what is being done to address
the issue of dangerous sex offenders falling
through cracks in the system.
Assembly Bill 1844,
"Chelsea's Law," by Assemblymember Nathan
Fletcher of San Diego, would institute lifetime
parole and GPS monitoring for serious sex
