Being that SPAC was created to ensure that specialized law enforcement would not be omitted, or negatively affected by legislative decisions, this page has been created to provide a clearinghouse of information regarding legislation. As legislation is introduced, or discussed that is critical to the specialized law enforcement sector, it will be incorporated into this page. Jury Duty Exemptions

This bill would make any law enforcement officer falling under 830 of the Penal Code exempt from voir dire in civil and criminal matters and mirrors federal jury duty exemptions for law enforcement.
- UPDATE 02/22/2008: PORAC has been told that getting passage will be a big fight, as the Judicial Counsel objects to further exemptions.
- UPDATE 03/12/2008: On 3/11/2008 this legislation was heard by the Assembly on Public Safety. In a 4-0 vote, the bill was passed as amended and referred to the Committee on Judiciary. To save the bill from being defeated, the amendment was to make the exemption for Community College and Unified School District police officers and only for exemption in voir dire in regards to criminal matters.
- UPDATE 04/02/2008: On 04/01/2008 this legislation was heard by the Assembly Judiciary Committee. In a 10-0 vote, the bill was passed as re-referred to the Committee on Appropriations.
